The Great Escape – Day 2
We made it yesterday to The Great Escape, the middle school conference at Lee University in Cleveland, TN. After almost 7 hours in the church buses, we made it in one piece. The youth were ushered off the church buses by the energetic staff of The Great Escape and directly into games and activities. The evening began with worship, our evening speaker, and then onto more games.
We woke up Monday morning ready for our first full day of the conference. We ate in their newly redesigned cafeteria, with plenty of choices of food. We have not eaten this good at this conference in a long time!
We spent some time in the morning in worship and then the morning speaker talked about Micah 6:8 – “What does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God.” In our family time, our time when our group from back home gathers to unpack the speakers’ messages, we have plenty of discussion on how we can live out this verse and these three things that are being asked of us.
During our free afternoon, we went whitewater rafting. It is always amazing to see those young people who are nervous about going down the rapids be the ones who crawl out to the front of the boat and “ride the bull.”
We made it back in time for our evening worship and speaker and discussed the mystery of grace. With two girls named “Grace,” one “Sarah Grace,” and another girl whose middle name is “Grace,” we had a lot to discuss!
During the evening activity, we played in the basketball tournament. Unfortunately, Sardis finished in second place this year, losing to the team that we beat last year for first place.
Please continue to pray for the youth and leaders on this conference. This is being written at 1:00 a.m. after a full day, and the alarm will come early. Pray that caffeine in the morning will energize everyone!
